I was born and raised in the County of Dade. I have to laugh whenever I say that. If you are from Miami, then you understand that statement is funny and so serious at the same time. In Miami where you went to high school and what you did in high school was important. I was in the band. It was what I did and a large part of who I was at the time.  If you were in the band you lived in the band room and your friends were more than likely band members. It was fun and provided me with an outlet.

Have you ever wondered about how your therapist became a therapist? Have you ever thought about what motivated therapists to make their life’s work helping others?

With this blog, I plan to share the story of why and how I became a Marriage and Family Therapist in the State of North Carolina. I’m excited to reveal the pivotal points along the way that inspired me and helped me grow.

Throughout my journey so many people have helped me to become a healer, helper, listener, coach, motivator, and clinician. It’s those stories and experiences that shaped my practice and help me better serve my clients whether they’re individuals, couples, or families. Ultimately, my goal is to use the collective experiences that shaped me to better serve those who seek my services.
If you’re like me, you love a good story. My plan is to share my experiences and expertise using the stories of my growth and evolution here. I believe that stories are windows into people’s lived experiences. They also provide behavioral and emotional context that’s so important. In therapy, stories have helped me understand what shapes the people sitting in front of me.

Each of the stories you’ll see here will come with varied perspectives. Some stories will come with lessons while others will offer a peek into what has inspired me and helped me grow. I’m also looking forward to sharing my expertise in ethical clinical practice and my journey toward becoming a supervisor of other Marriage and Family Therapists. The ultimate goal of this blog is to provide healing, hope and inspiration via these experiences because that’s how change ultimately occurs.

At this point I’m reminded of Erykah Badu: I am therapist, and I am sensitive about my sh**. This is a huge leap for me and honestly - it makes me a little uncomfortable. However, I’m committed to sharing more with the goal of helping both myself and those around me. Thank you for taking this journey with me!

There’s no going back now.
