Are you making room for joy?
Most mornings I get myself up and go for a walk. Over the past year, during the pandemic, my morning walks have been one of the constants in my routine. I realize a significant change in my overall disposition when I am not able to walk with some regularity.
During my morning walks a few things happen: I am able to speak to GOD. It’s not chatty conversations, but more like slight whispers like breath, look at those lady bugs, look up at the clouds. Sit for a second and enjoy the sun. Every moment is a reminder to just be and enjoy this. So, I do.
I am also able to read, or at least listen to an audiobook or the occasional podcast. Its pretty cool. I’ve listened to some great books during my walks that have really changed how I see things including myself.
I am also able to share a good word in the morning. I am the person who walks by and says “Good Morning” when I see you. Sometimes, I am caught up in my book, but for the most part I try to acknowledge the other people out and about for their morning walk.
Why am I sharing this? My morning walks are one of the few ways I am intentional about making room for joy. It isn’t easy, but it is necessary that we all create space for joy, peace, and happiness in our lives. We have more than enough reasons to be overwhelmed with sadness, regret, frustration, and disappointment, but we have to make space for joy.
I took this picture the other morning because this flower brought me joy. It literally put a smile on my face. So, I took a picture so that I can have a memory of it, but also so I can share some joy with others.
Have you made room for joy in your life?
